Five singles wins lifts #32 Pioneers to 5-2 win over LMU

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University won five singles matches to earn a 5-2 victory over Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 32nd-ranked Pioneers (12-5, 6-3 SAC) came back after dropping the doubles point to beat the Railsplitters (8-9, 2-7 SAC) and remain in pursuit of a top-four finish in the SAC standings and a home match in the quarterfinal round next week.

In doubles, the Pioneers' lone win came at flight two where Gabriel Yaguar and Tomas Almeida teamed for a 7-5 win over David Segarra and Iker Moure.

In singles, Vadzim Raitsou leveled the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Fabian Sjokvist at flight five, and Yago Fernandez claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Moritz Hoerner at flight three. LMU tied the match at 2-2 with a three-set win at flight one, but Manuel Almeida won 6-2, 6-0 over Sebastian Colla at flight four and Tomas Almeida earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Moure at flight two. Yaguar closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jake Tuchmann at flight six.

The Pioneers will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Catawba to face the Indians on Saturday at noon.
