Pioneers pick up 5-2 victory over Coker

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University earned a 5-2 victory over Coker College in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Saturday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (6-2, 2-0 SAC) won two of the three doubles contests to earn the team point, then earned four straight-set wins in singles to beat the Cobras (3-7, 0-2 SAC).

In doubles, Manuel Guedes de Almeida and Fabian Paier won 6-4 at flight two over Hunter Horton and Pablo Gonzalo-Saul, and Yago Fernandez teamed with Jacco Mensinga for a 6-2 victory over Isaac MacMillan and Walker Long at flight three.

After Coker tied the match with wins at number-one and number-five singles, the Pioneers pulled away as Fernandez defeated Horton 6-3, 6-3 at flight two, Almeida won 6-4, 6-3 over Max Sturgess at flight three and Vadzim Raitsou won 6-4, 6-1 over MacMillan at flight four. Gabriel Yaguar closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at flight six against Fabrizio Tucci.

The Pioneers will return to action Sunday afternoon at Johnson C. Smith for a 2 p.m. non-conference match.
