Pioneers rally for 4-3 win at Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. --- Tusculum University won the final four singles matches to pull out a thrilling 4-3 victory over Young Harris College in non-conference men's tennis Sunday afternoon.

The Pioneers (3-1) trailed 3-0 with four singles matches remaining, but won each in straight sets to escape with the win over the Mountain Lions (0-5).

Young Harris took two of the three doubles contests to earn a team point, with the Tusculum duo of David Akinpetide and Yago Fernandez winning 6-3 at flight two over Ruben Gonzalez and Romeo Luque.

The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 3-0 with singles wins at flight five and flight one, but Tusculum got its first victory at flight four as Vadzim Raitsou beat Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1. Manuel Guedes de Almeida won 6-4, 6-1 at flight three over Kash Reddiyar, and Fernandez knotted the match at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Ignacio Ascarrunz at flight two.

The Pioneers' Milan Jankovic captured the decisive point as he beat Herman Ronnberg 6-2, 6-4 to give Tusculum the match.

Tusculum will face North Georgia Monday at 1 p.m. to finish their two-day road swing.
