Pioneers ranked 34th in latest ITA Division II poll

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum men's tennis team is ranked 34th in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Team Rankings, through matches of April 8.

The Pioneers fell three spots from 31st to 34th after a 5-4 loss Sunday afternoon to Queens, which moved up one position from 16th to 15th in the rankings. A total of six South Atlantic Conference teams are represented in this week's ITA computer rankings, with a total of eight opponents who appeared on the Pioneer schedule during the season.

Among SAC teams, Wingate is ranked 14th, followed by Queens in 15th and Newberry in 27th. Anderson (30th), Lincoln Memorial (33rd) and Tusculum (34th) give the SAC all six of its teams within the top 35 positions in the Top 50 rankings.

The Pioneers, who are 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference, are 2-5 against teams currently in the ITA rankings. Tusculum owns 5-4 victories against 25th-ranked Young Harris (March 16) and 33rd-ranked Lincoln Memorial (March 21). Three of the Pioneers' five losses to teams in this week's rankings were by 5-4 scores, including back-to-back defeats to Queens and Wingate this week.

Tusculum will close its regular season on Saturday at 27th-ranked Newberry, then will open the SAC Championship tournament with a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, April 17.
