Pioneers grab 6-3 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match on Friday with a 6-3 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 38th-ranked Pioneers (13-4, 4-2 SAC) went up 2-1 after doubles and took four of the six singles matches against the Bears (11-6, 2-4 SAC), who have lost four of their last five contests.

In doubles, Tashique Kader and Gabriel Yaguar edged Hamed Gandouz and Shane O'Dea 8-7 at flight one, and Yago Fernandez teamed with Toby de Klerk for an 8-4 victory over Tales Miranda and Alex Crespo Sanchez at flight two.

In singles action, Tomas Kmetko was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Miranda at flight two, Kader downed Alex Ayguavives 6-1, 6-0 at flight four, Jorge Cervantes claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory at flight five over Paul Lenz, and Yaguar won 7-5, 6-2 at flight six against Sanchez.

The Pioneers will play their final home match of the 2017-18 season next Saturday, April 7 against Queens, beginning at 10 a.m.
