Three-set win boosts #42 Tusculum to 5-4 win at Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. --- A three-set win by Gabriel Yaguar in the final singles match boosted 42nd-ranked Tusculum to a 5-4 victory over Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the LMU Indoor Tennis Facility.

Yaguar defeated Iker Tomas Moure 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to give the Pioneers (11-4, 2-2 SAC) the victory over the Railsplitters (6-5, 2-2 SAC), who lost four of six singles matches after taking a 2-1 lead after doubles. Three of the six singles matches went to three sets, with the Pioneers winning two of the marathon contests.

In doubles, the Pioneers' lone point came from Yaguar and Tashique Kader, who earned an 8-5 victory over Moritz Hoerner and Jake Tuchmann at flight one. Kader knotted the match at 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over David Segarra at flight four, and Tomas Kmetko gave Tusculum another point with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 victory over Xavier Marti at flight two.

Jorge Cervantes was a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set winner over Hoerner at flight five, as Tusculum led 4-3 heading into the final two matches. The Railsplitters came away with a three-set victory in action at flight three, but Yaguar came through with the decisive point at flight six.

The Pioneers will visit 10th-ranked Wingate on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a matchup of ranked opponents.
