Singles sweep gives Anderson 7-2 win over Pioneers

ANDERSON, S.C. --- Host Anderson swept all six singles matches in a 7-2 victory over Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Thursday afternoon.

The Trojans (6-4, 1-1 SAC) trailed 2-1 after doubles, but won all four matches that were tied after two sets to hand the Pioneers (8-4, 0-2 SAC) their third consecutive loss.

In doubles, the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead as Tashique Kader and Gabriel Yaguar defeated Jeffrey Dayton and Hank Sartain 9-7 at flight one, and Toby de Klerk and Yago Fernandez teamed for an 8-5 win at flight two over Tomas Depiaggio and Hufelder Duarte.

In singles, the Trojans eked out a pair of three-set victories, as Dayton defeated Marco Meon 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 at flight two and Depiaggio rallied to beat Fernandez 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at flight three. At flight four, Preston Morpeth won 10-7 in a tiebreaker over Kader after splitting the first two set 3-6 and 7-5, while Duarte won a marathon 14-12 tiebreaker over Yaguar at flight six after dividing the first two sets 6-4, 5-7.

Tusculum will return home to welcome Young Harris to the Nichols Tennis Complex for a non-conference match beginning at noon on Friday.
