Pioneers earn 9-0 victory over Bellarmine

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum did not drop a set in a 9-0 victory over Bellarmine in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (5-1) jumped to a 3-0 lead over the Knights (2-6) in doubles as Tomas Kmetko and David Akinpetide defeated Sam Rueff and Matthew Momper 8-4 at flight one, Toby de Klerk and Yago Fernandez downed Alex Swords and Nick Johnson 8-2 at flight two, and at flight three it was Jorge Cervantes and Eduardo Munoz with an 8-1 win over Andrew Jones and L.J. Allara.

In singles, Marco Meon beat Momper 7-5, 6-2 at flight one, Cervantes blanked Rueff 6-0, 6-0 at flight two, and Akinpetide won 6-2, 6-3 at flight three over Jones. Rounding out the win for the Pioneers were Gabriel Yaguar with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Swords at flight four, Gaston Aguilera with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Joseph Naville at flight five, and Fabian Paier by a 6-3, 6-4 score over Johnson at flight six.

Tusculum will head to Hilton Head, South Carolina for four matches over Spring Break, starting on Tuesday, March 6 at 8:30 a.m. against Chowan.
