Pioneers close out fall dual schedule with 8-1 win at Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. --- Tusculum defeated Montreat 8-1 in non-conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon, improving the Pioneers' record to 4-0 in their final dual match of the fall season.

Tusculum took a 3-0 lead over the Cavaliers (3-5) in doubles as Tashique Kader and Gabriel Yaguar defeated Leopoldo Lucero and Ben Cree 8-2 at flight one, Eduardo Munoz and Toby de Klerk beat Lorward Choi and David Garcia 8-1 at flight two, and Yago Fernandez teamed with Gabriel Bernardi for an 8-4 victory over Anh Hoang and Grayson Chumley at flight three.

In singles, Fernandez defeated Choi 6-3, 6-1 at flight one, Kader beat Lucero 6-0, 6-3 at flight two, and Marco Meon delivered the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Garcia at flight three.

Also earning singles wins for the Pioneers were Yaguar, who defeated Cree 6-2, 7-5 at flight four, and Fabian Paier who won over Hoang in a pro set at flight six by an 8-1 score.

The Pioneers will finish up their fall schedule this weekend at Georgia Gwinnett College in the Grizzly Open. Action will begin Friday morning and continue through Sunday.
