Late wins boost Pioneers to 5-4 victory over King

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum won two of the final three singles matches to edge King 5-4 in non-conference men's tennis action Monday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (3-0) received wins at flight five from Tashique Kader and Toby de Klerk at flight six to defeat the Tornado (0-1), who trailed 2-1 after doubles but won two of the first three singles matches to even the score.

In doubles, Jorge Cervantes and Kader defeated Lenny Keswani and Arturo Alfaro 8-3 at flight two, while de Klerk teamed with Gabriel Yaguar for an 8-2 win over Jorge Rojas and Charles Jabaley at flight three.

In singles, Eduardo Munoz downed Alfaro 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 at flight three after the Tornado won at the first two singles flights. Kader then handled Rojas 6-0, 6-2 at flight five and de Klerk beat Jabaley at flight six by a score of 6-2, 6-4 to give Tusculum the win.

The Pioneers will travel to Sumter, South Carolina this weekend to participate in the ITA Division II Southeast Regional, being played Thursday through Sunday at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
