Tusculum earns 7-2 win over Carson-Newman

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum improved to 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-2 win over Carson-Newman in men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (10-4 overall) won two out of three in doubles and five out of six in singles to defeat the Eagles (4-6, 3-3 SAC). Tomas Kmetko, Yago Fernandez and David Siegle each picked up a pair of points in the win for the Pioneers.

In doubles, Kmetko and Toby de Klerk defeated Stefano Daza and Rodolpho Schwarz 8-4 at flight one, while Fernandez and Siegle teamed for an 8-6 win over Jesus Barcete and Marc Bantel at flight three.

In singles, Kmetko rallied from a set down to beat Joao Pedro Oliveria 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at flight one, Fernandez beat Daza 6-3, 6-3 at flight two and Tashique Kader was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at flight four over Bantel. Eduardo Munoz earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gabriel Dabdab at flight five, while Siegle closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kevin Mendes at flight six.

Tusculum will host Newberry Saturday at 1 p.m. and Coker on Sunday at 2 p.m. in SAC matches from the Nichols Tennis Complex.
