Pioneers rally in doubles, earn 7-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College won its third consecutive South Atlantic Conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (6-2, 3-0 SAC) trailed in all three doubles matches to the Bears (5-3, 1-2 SAC) but rallied to win two of the three contests before taking five of six in singles plays.

In doubles, Tashique Kader and Leon Seiz beat Tomas Hons and Shane O'Dea 9-8 at flight one, capturing the tiebreaker by a 7-5 score. At flight two, Yago Fernandez and David Siegle came back to defeat Hamed Gandouz and Paul Lenz 8-6.

In singles, Kader won 6-2, 6-3 over Gandouz at flight one, Fernandez beat Hons 6-2, 6-2 at flight two and Toby de Klerk clinched the victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Alex Ayguavives at flight three. At flight five, Eduardo Munoz was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Tales Miranda, and Seiz beat Lenz 6-3, 6-0 at flight six to wrap up the match.

Tusculum will remain home on Tuesday to host North Greenville University at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The non-conference match with the Crusaders is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
