BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Tusculum College edged King University 5-4 in the fall men's tennis opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (1-0) fell behind 2-1 to the Tornado (0-1) after doubles and trailed 4-2 midway through singles, but rallied to win the final three points and capture the match.
Down 4-2 after dropping two of the first three singles matches, the Pioneers picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win by Eduardo Munoz over Kyle Logue at flight four. David Siegle then tied the match by shutting out Ankith Madasani 6-0, 6-0 at flight six, and Fabian Paier delivered the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at flight five over Charles Jabaley.
In doubles, the team of Paier and Siegle gained a point for the Pioneers by beating Madasani and Jabaley 8-4 at flight three. The Pioneers picked up their second point at flight two singles, where freshman Yago Fernandez won after the Tornado's Luis Delgado retired after the players split the first two sets 6-7 (4-7), 6-4.
Tusculum heads to Sumter, South Carolina next weekend for the ITA Southeast Regional, before facing Virginia-Wise in their lone home match of the fall on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
