For the second time in three weeks, Tusculum College men's
tennis standout Lukas Winkelmann has been honored as the South
Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, the SAC office announced
Monday.
Winkelmann was victorious in both singles and doubles as the
Pioneers picked up their eighth straight victory with a 7-2 win at
Newberry on Sunday afternoon. The wins improved the Boblingen,
Germany native's season records to 14-0 in singles and 12-2 in
doubles for the Pioneers.
In singles, Winkelmann beat Newberry's Michael Saunders by a 6-2,
6-1 score, while in doubles he teamed with his brother, Jonas, for
an 8-5 win over Saunders and Vinicius Botelho. Winkelmann is ranked
15th in singles and 10th in doubles in the latest ITA Division II
Southeast Region rankings.
The Pioneers (11-3, 4-1 SAC) return to action on Tuesday afternoon
at 1 p.m. at Carson-Newman.
