ROLLINS BLANKS TUSCULUM 5-0 IN NCAA MEN'S TENNIS OPENER

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --- The No. 11 Rollins College tennis team posted a 5-0 win over 34th-ranked Tusculum College Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The regional is being hosted by Barry University at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Tars (16-7) advance to Friday's second round match with No. 8 Barry, while the Pioneers end their season at 20-2.

Rollins swept all three doubles points, including an 8-2 pro set win by Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez over the No. 1 pairing of Henrique Rodrigues and Leo Guaycurus. Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo won 8-5 over Nicolas Bigler and Hunter Beal at No. 2 doubles.

Gomez recorded the clinching point at No. 2 singles as he won in straight sets over South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year Carlos Garcia, 6-2, 6-1.

Tusculum was making its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth in the last seven years. The Pioneers' 20 wins this season are the most in school history.
