Jonathan Houghton is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Tusculum University men's soccer program.

Houghton, a native of Harlow, England, has extensive background in the coaching and sports industry spanning over a decade.

In his time at TU, the Pioneers have finished in the top tier of the South Atlantic Conference standings twice and helped the Black and Orange to a 2018 SAC Tournament title and a berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament, advancing to the Southeast Region semifinal.  He has mentored 10 All-SAC performers including, four CoSIDA Academic All-District selections and one Academic All-American (Pau Peiro - 2019).

From 2016-2018 he coached with the the Fury Soccer Club Academy in Morgantown, West Virginia.  He also served on the collegiate coaching staff at Bryan College in Tennessee and Bluefield College in Virginia.  His coaching talents also carried him to the prep level working on the staff at Rhea County High School in Dayton, Tennessee.

Houghton played his collegiate career at Bryan, where he garnered All-Appalachian Athletic Conference honors all four seasons and led the Lions to a pair of AAC titles in 2008 and 2010 and two AAC Tournament crowns in 2009 and 2010.  Bryan advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in his sophomore and junior campaigns and his teams amassed an impressive 53-21-6 overall record including 19-6-3 in league play.  The 2010 Lions posted an 18-2-2 record (6-0-1 AAC) while sweeping both the AAC regular season and tournament crowns and advanced to the NAIA National Sweet 16.  The Lions finished the year with a No. 9 national ranking.

He holds numerous coaching certifications and is the recipient of both Football Association Level 1 & 2 coaching awards along with English Football Association coaching certifications that align with youth
coaching.  He has a USSF E License and a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

Houghton earned his Bachelor of Science degree in exercise health science from Bryan College in 2012.  He earned his masters of science degree in athletic coaching education from West Virginia University in 2018.
