ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum freshman forward Edgar Cervantes has been named to the South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer All-Conference team, in voting conducted by the league's 11 head coaches and released Wednesday.

Cervantes was named honorable mention All-SAC as he finished second on the team in points with seven, and was tied for second with three goals in 16 matches. The native of Cancun, Mexico was named SAC Player of the Week after scoring two goals in a 3-1 win at Catawba on Oct. 21 and adding a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw with Carson-Newman on Oct. 18. Cervantes started six of the Pioneers' 10 conference matches and was one of three players to appear in all 10 of Tusculum's league contests.

Ignacio de Goya of Lenoir-Rhyne was named conference Player of the Year, with Till Neumann of Newberry earning Freshman of the Year honors. Wingate coach Gary Hamill was named Coach of the Year for the ninth time after leading the defending national champion Bulldogs to their fourth consecutive SAC regular season championship.

The Pioneers finished 2-8-6 overall and tied for eighth in the SAC with a 2-4-4 league record in 2017. Six of the Pioneers' eight losses were by one goal, and Tusculum trailed by more than one goal in just 48 of the 1566 minutes played this season.
