ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum freshman Edgar Cervantes has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in men's soccer for the week ending Oct. 22, the conference office announced Monday.
Cervantes scored three goals and added an assist as the Pioneers picked up a win and a draw last week to stay in the thick of the South Atlantic Conference playoff race.
Cervantes scored in the sixth minute and assisted on a first-half goal from Jonny Winter in a 2-2 draw with Carson-Newman last Wednesday. On Saturday, the freshman from Cancun, Mexico scored in the fifth and 24th minutes of a 3-1 win at Catawba.
For the season, Cervantes ranks second on the team in both goals and points. Tusculum (2-6-6, 2-3-4 SAC) opens the final week of the regular season with a non-conference home match against Lee on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
