NASHVILLE --- Tusculum College forward Andre De Giorgi has been named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association's (TSWA) College Men's Soccer Player of the Week. De Giorgi earns his first TSWA honor and becomes the third Pioneer this season to be recognized by the organization.
De Giorgi, a senior from Lisbon, Portugal, scored the match-winning goal with 1:43 remaining in double-overtime in Tusculum's 2-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial in the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament title match last Sunday.
De Giorgi scored three goals in TC's three wins during its SAC Tournament run. TC posted a 2-1 double-overtime win over Mars Hill in the quarterfinal round. De Giorgi scored a goal in TC's 2-0 win over Coker in the semifinal and followed with two goals in Sunday's win against LMU.
De Giorgi was named the SAC Tournament Most Valuable to add to his All-SAC first team honors he received last week.
He has scored a team-best 16 goals this season as the Pioneers improve to 16-3 on the season and will be the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. TC will open against Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday in Misenheimer, North Carolina at 7 p.m. The winner of the TC/L-R match will face No. 2 seed and host Pfeiffer on Saturday at 7 p.m.
