Scott promoted to Men's soccer associate head coach

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College head men's soccer coach Allen Vital has announced that Josh Scott has been elevated to the position of associate head coach of the Pioneer program.

Scott began his second stint as the top assistant to Vital in February, 2015 after serving in the same role during the 2011 season. That year, he helped the Pioneers vault from the bottom of the conference standings the previous season to a second-place finish with a 6-1-2 league record.

"I am delighted to be given the opportunity as I strive to be the best coach, mentor, teacher and person I can be on a daily basis," said Scott. "I would like to thank Coach Vital, Interim Director of Athletics Doug Jones and President Dr. Nancy B. Moody for this promotion and putting their trust in me to help the men's soccer program achieve excellence on and off the field."

Scott, a 2010 graduate of Milligan College, began his coaching career at Emory & Henry College where he served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, along with a stint as interim head coach in the spring of 2011 prior to his arrival at Tusculum.

"I'm excited for Josh. This is a positive step for his career. I look forward to his continuing contributions as we look to advance all aspect of our soccer program," said Vital, who has won 206 matches in 20 seasons as a college head coach, including 40 in the last five years at his alma mater.

Scott was also an assistant coach at Longwood University during the 2014 season, where he coordinator recruitment, oversaw team travel, player development, scouting, film analysis and academic monitoring and mentoring for the Division I Lancers.

In 2011, Scott helped start the Knoxville Soccer Academy and was head coach of several U20 men's teams, along with several girls' squads that advanced to state and regional tournament play. He also played semi-pro soccer with the Chattanooga Football Club, and was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Knoxville Force of the National Premier Soccer League.

Scott holds his Premier License, Advanced National License and Director of Coaching License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and holds several UEFA coaching certificates from the English Football Association.

The Pioneers finished 9-6-2 overall and were 6-4-1 in the South Atlantic Conference during the 2015 season. Tusculum was honored after the season with four All-South Atlantic Conference selections, along with an NSCAA All-Region pick and a CoSIDA Academic All-American®.
