Lazcano, Spicher garner Academic All-District honors

AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum College's Guillermo Lazcano and Jonathan Spicher have been named to the 2015 NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 Men's Soccer first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Both will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced next month.

Lazcano, a junior defender from Aviles, Spain, boasts a 3.65 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in sport management.

Lazcano has started in 14 matches where he has accounted for two goals and two assists for his six total points. His assisted on a goal against Lincoln Memorial University, which was the only scoring tally for the Pioneers in their 1-1 draw against the Railsplitters.

He anchors the Tusculum back-line that has accounted for a 1.17 team goals against average, which includes five shutouts.

Last season, he earned Daktronics NCAA II All-Southeast Region second team honors and was also selected to the All-South Atlantic Conference second team as a defender. He scored on goal in 2014 and played in every minute in Tusculum's SAC Tournament championship run a year ago.

Lazcano is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Spicher, a junior forward from Cologne, Germany, has a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in accounting.

He has appeared in 14 contests, including 10 starts where he has tallied a pair of goals. His first goal of 2015 came in Tusculum's 1-1 draw against Lincoln Memorial. He also scored in TC's 5-1 road win at Mars Hill University. He has taken 25 shots this season, including 11 on frame.

Last year, Spicher scored seven goals and earned a spot on the All-SAC second team as he led the Pioneers with his four match-winning goals. He scored the match-winner in a SAC quarterfinal win over Carson-Newman and kicked in the deciding goal in a penalty kick shootout with Mars Hill in the SAC semifinal and earning him a spot on the SAC All-Tournament Team.

In 2013-14, he was the recipient of the Tusculum Freshman of the Year Academic Award and followed with the TC Academic Achievement Award, which goes to the Pioneer student-athlete with the top GPA. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, President's List, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Members of the CoSIDA NCAA II Academic All-District 3 Team are selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.

Tusculum (8-6-1, 5-4-1 SAC) closes out the regular-season on Friday as the Pioneers host 19th-ranked Wingate University for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff at Pioneer Field.
