GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Rurik Pereira recorded a goal and an assist in leading visiting Carson-Newman to a 2-1 South Atlantic Conference victory over Tusculum Tuesday night at Pioneer Field.

With the win, the 21st-ranked Eagles (13-2-1, 8-2 SAC) secured to finish no worse than second place in the SAC standings.

After a scoreless first half, Carson-Newman got on the scoreboard Pereira kicked in a rebound off a keeper save in the 50th minute for his second goal of 2015. The goal was assisted by James Ward and Sindre Welo.

C-N added an insurance goal in the 75th minute as Tom Read notched his team-leading seventh goal of the year as he gathered in a pass from Pereira for a 2-0 Eagle lead.

Tusculum (8-6-1, 5-4-1 SAC) cut the deficit in half as Rocco Menna scored his first goal of the year on a 33-yard kick from the right wing in the 81st minute.

C-N keeper Kavi Luchowa tallied the win as he posted two saves. Tusculum net-minder Jorge Alvarez accounted for four saves in the loss.

The Pioneers will close out the regular season on Friday as they host 19th-ranked Wingate for Senior Night at 6:30 p.m.
