Tusculum remains undefeated with 4-2 victory over Milligan

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- For a second straight match, the Tusculum men's soccer team receiving another balanced offensive attack as the Pioneers defeated visiting Milligan College 4-2 Saturday night at Pioneer Field.

Four different Pioneers found their way into the scoring column as Tusculum is off to its first 2-0 start in seven years. TC's last 2-0 start was in 2008 when the Pioneers posted a 20-3-1 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

In the 26th minute, TC senior Cody Kammerzell scored his second goal of the young season as he took a deflected bass from Nathaniel Scere and deposited the shot inside the right post.

Milligan answered four minutes later as Jonathan Colson notched his third goal of the year as he took a crossing pass from Anthony Walker in the box and found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.

Two minutes before the intermission, Ricardo Da Silva broke the deadlock with the header to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead going into the locker room.

Kyle Dickson, who assisted on Da Silva's goal, scored one of his own in the 54th minute with his blast from 12 yards out for a two-goal TC lead.

Milligan trimmed the deficit to a goal when Thomas Suits blasted a free kick from 40 yards away to the top right corner at the 62:29 mark of the match.

Pablo Laguna added an insurance goal in the 84th minute from the top of the penalty area for his first scoring tally of the season.

Tusculum out-shot Milligan by a 27-14 margin, including 12-6 in shots on goal. TC also held a decisive 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Tusculum keeper Jorge Alvarez recorded four saves in the contest, while his Milligan counterpart Nick Smith tallied seven stops in the loss.

The Pioneers host Lees-McRae College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest at Pioneer Field.
