
HICKORY, N.C. --- Lenoir-Rhyne University rolled up a 25-9 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
The seventh-ranked Bears (11-2, 6-2 SAC) received goals from 17 different players and outshot the Pioneers (3-11, 0-9 SAC) by a 60-21 margin. Lenoir-Rhyne had a 65-21 edge in ground balls over Tusculum and won 30 of the 38 faceoffs in the match.
Donovan Powell had three goals, Evan Voss had two goals and four assists and Jarrett Huff tacked on two goals and three assists for the Bears, who led 8-2 after one quarter and 16-2 at halftime. The teams each scored three goals in the third quarter, with the Bears picking up six of the 10 tallies in the fourth.
Tysen Fontenla led Tusculum with three goals and Luke Bowen had two goals and four assists, with two goals and an assist each from Ben Royer and Ben Hobday. Drake Vance led the Pioneers with six ground balls and Blake Harrison had three ground balls and three caused turnovers for Tusculum.
Brenden Pecora had eight saves in goal while playing the first half for the Pioneers, followed by Garrett Smith with four saves and Alex Germain with one. Jack Burdge made two stops for the Bears, with five saves from Nick Floyd in the third quarter.
Both teams were 1-for-2 with the extra man, and the Bears were 10-for-10 on clears while Tusculum was 19-for-23. The Pioneers finished with 21 turnovers to 16 for the Bears.
Tusculum will play its last two games of the season at home, starting on Wednesday, April 16 against Thomas More at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Field. The non-conference match was rescheduled from Feb. 22 due to poor weather.
