Pioneers move up one spot to 19th in USILA Division II poll
PERRY, N.Y. --- The Tusculum men's lacrosse team moved up one spot in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Coaches Poll, released Monday afternoon.
The Pioneers (9-2) are tied for 19th with Lake Erie in the rankings after defeating Coker 17-7 in the team's only match last week. It was the Pioneers' fourth straight win and kept Tusculum in second place in the South Atlantic Conference standings at 5-1 with two conference games remaining. Last week, Tusculum was ranked in the USILA poll for the first time in program history at 20th, after receiving votes each of the previous three weeks.
Tusculum is one of three SAC teams ranked this week, as first-place Lenoir-Rhyne is up two spots to fifth while Wingate climbed four positions to 12th. Tampa, which defeated the Pioneers 15-8 in the season opener on Feb. 5, is ranked 13th this week.
The Pioneers have taken over the statistical lead in Division II in both assists per game (9.73) and points per game (24.82), while ranking third in man-up offense at 46.3 percent. Tusculum is also fourth in scoring offense at 15.09 goals per game, eighth in man-down defense (81.3 percent) and eighth in ground balls per game (36.18).
Tusculum will return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. with a SAC contest at Mars Hill, before concluding their regular season on Saturday, April 22 at home against Wingate.
