Pioneers receive votes in USILA Top 20 for first time

PERRY, N.Y. --- The Tusculum College men's lacrosse team is receiving votes in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Top 20 poll, the USILA announced Monday.

The Pioneers, who have won five consecutive games, are receiving votes in the poll for the first time in the program's four seasons of play. Tusculum is off to its best-ever start through six games at 5-1 and leads the South Atlantic Conference in goals per game at 16.5.

The Pioneers rank in the top five nationally in six different statistical categories according to the latest NCAA Division II stats, including scoring offense, man-up offense (53.8 percent, 4th), assists (60, 2nd), assists per game (10.0, 4th), points per game (26.5, 4th) and shot percentage (36.3 percent, 4th).

The top three teams are unchanged in this week's poll, led by top-ranked LeMoyne, Limestone and Merrimack. Lindenwood and Mercyhurst round out the top five, while the top 20 includes SAC opponents Lenoir-Rhyne (12th), Queens (18th) and Wingate (19th). Tampa, which gave Tusculum its only loss in the season opener, is ranked 14th this week.

The Pioneers' scheduled non-conference game Wednesday night at Lees-McRae has been postponed due to the forecast of inclement weather. Tusculum's next game will be Saturday, March 18 at Lenoir-Rhyne starting at 4 p.m.
