GAFFNEY, S.C. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team posted a two-round score of 593 and is in second place after the opening day of the 2023 Limestone Fall Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being hosted by Limestone University and held at the par-72, 7,001-yard Cherokee National Golf Club.
The Pioneers are two strokes behind tournament host and first day leader Limestone as the Saints shot 293-298=591.
Tusculum opened with a 296 and were three strokes out of the lead behind Limestone. But a 297 in Monday's second 18 trimmed the deficit by one.
North Greenville's Brenden Tigert has the individual lead heading into Tuesday's final round. He posted back-to-back rounds of 71 and is the lone player in red numbers at 142 (-2).
Tusculum freshman Morgan Cain is five shots out of the lead with 147 (+3) including a second round 71 (-1). Senior Liam van Deventer is tied for fifth place with 71-78=149 while senior Dominic Barron Holden rounds out the top-10 with 74-77=151. Sophomore Cole Haygood is tied for 12th with 75-77=152 and junior Liam Hermansson is 19th with 82-72=154. Isak Holter is 36th with 84-82=166 playing as an individual competitor.
The Pioneers are making a bid to win its third consecutive tournament to start the season. Tusculum won its season-opening event at the King Invitational and followed with last week's home victory at the Bob Dibble Intercollegiate.
