Pioneers finish runner-up at Walters State Fall Classic

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team finished second at the 2019 Walters State Fall Classic. The Pioneers posted back-to-back days of 299 to tally 598 in the team's final tournament of the final.

Carson-Newman B won the team title leading wire-to-wire finishing with a seven-under par score of 569 including Tuesday's 286. Tusculum's A team finished runner-up followed by host Walters State with 603, Tusculum B with 619 and Roane State claimed fifth place with 650.

Carson-Newman's Fergus Robinson claimed medalist honors with a two-day score of 66-70=136 (-8), three shots ahead of teammate Zach Young (68-71=139).

Tusculum A's Kyle Engelbert earned a spot on the All-Tournament team as he shot a one-under par 71 in his final round to finish tied for fourth place with 75-71=146. Noah Jones tied for seventh for the Tusculum A squad with his 74-74=148, while Liam Sweeney carded 76-76=152 for 11th place. Tusculum A's Jeffery Perez finished in sole possession of 14th place with 74-80=154 and Mark Healy placed 20th with 80-78=158.

Matt DiBella led the Tusculum B team with 72-75=147, good enough for sixth place. Hunter Chandley tied for 12th place with 76-77=143 and Marko Jokic finished 15th with 80-75=155. Bennett Noe shaved eight shots off his Monday score with a final round 75 to post 158 and tie for 20th. John Bennett tallied 80-84=164 to finish 26th.

The Pioneers return to action Feb. 10-11 as they compete at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate in St. Augustine, Florida.
