Pioneers in second place at King Invitational

BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team shot an opening round 288 and is in second place after day one of the 2019 King University Invitational which is being held at the par-70, 6,483-yard Country Club of Bristol.

The Pioneers are five shots behind host King as the Tornado carded a three-over par team score of 283.

Leading the charge for the Pioneers is sophomore Mark Healy who tallied an even par 70 and is tied for third place and is two shots behind tournament leader Leonardo Rigamonti of King who fired a two-under par 68.

Tusculum junior Jeffery Perez, who was the medalist at last week's Mars Hill Invitational, continued his solid play with a one-over par 71 and is tied for fifth place.  Junior Bennett Noe is tied for 11th place following his 73, while the TU duo of Noah Jones and Kyle Engelbert are tied for 13th place after shooting 74 on Monday.

Erskine College is in third place in the team competition after shooting 294, while North Greenville is fourth with 296.  Erskine B team is fifth with 300, followed by Catawba College (303), Virginia-Wise (307), King B (307) and Emmanuel College (309).

Tusculum will begin its final round on Tuesday beginning at 10:28 a.m.
