Pioneers in second place after day one of Tusculum Invitational

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team opened with a 292 and is in second place at the 26th annual TU Invitational which is being held at the par-71, 6,763-yard Link Hills Country Club.

The Pioneers are three shots behind first day leader Walters State as the Senators fired a 289.  Alex Hodge of Walters State carded a five-under par 66 and leads by two shots over Brevard's Austin Fisher.  Hodge's 66 ties a tournament record for the lowest opening round, matching the 66 posted by Tusculum's Chris Wynne in 2006.

Leading the charge for Tusculum is junior Jeffery Perez who posted an even par 71 and is in fourth place for the TU Orange team and is five shots behind Hodge.  Matt DiBella is tied for sixth place after posting a 73, while the duo of Noah Jones and Liam Sweeney each shot 74 and are tied for ninth.  Kyle Engelbert posted a 77 and is 20th to round out the Tusculum Orange scoring.

The Tusculum Black team is seventh with a score of 317.  The trio of Hunter Chandley, Sheikh Razak and Jordan Williams all shot 79 and are tied for 25thJohn Bennett is 35th with an 80 while Bennett Noe shot 87 and is tied for 63rd place.

In the team competition, Shorter is third with 297, followed by Felician (310), Milligan (311), Franklin College (312), TU Black (317), Davenport (319), Concord (321), UVa-Wise (326) and Bluefield State (331).

The final round of the Tusculum Invitational will be played on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
