Pioneers shoot 299, ninth after day one of Buccaneer Spring Classic

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team carded an opening day score of 299 and are in ninth place at the 2019 Buccaneer Spring Classic.  The two-day, 36-hole event is being held at the par-70, 6,397-yard North Creek Golf Course and is hosted by Christian Brothers University.

The TU duo of Noah Jones and Liam Sweeney each carded a 74 and are tied for 25th place, individually.

West Georgia shot an even par team score of 280 and leads by six strokes over Rogers State (286). Host Christian Brothers is third with 287 while the trio of Mississippi College, Delta State and Miles College are in a three-way tie for fourth place with 289.  Murray State is seventh with 295, Lincoln University is eighth with 296, while Tusculum and Kentucky Wesleyan are tied for ninth place with 299. Shorter is 11th with 300, followed by Arkansas-Monticello (306), Christian Brothers B (311), Quincy (320) and LeMoyne-Owen (340).

TU's Jeffrey Perez is 35th after firing a 75, while Matt DiBella is tied for 45th place with 76.  Kyle Engelbert shot 78 and is tied for 53rd.

West Georgia's Samuel Jones has the first day lead after his three-under par 67 and leads by one shot over Luke Palmowski (Rogers State) and two shots clear of Zach Zediker (Delta State).

The tournament will wrap on Tuesday.
