Engelbert shoots 72, tied for fourth at Batte at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Kyle Engelbert shot an even par round of 72 and is tied for fourth place after the opening round at the 2019 Battle at Hilton Head, which is being held at the par 72, 6,651-yard Arthur Hills-Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Course.

The Pioneers shot a team score of 301 and are in sixth place in the 13-team tournament field.  Henderson State has the first day lead with 290, one shot ahead of second place Lincoln Memorial (291) and seven shots clear of the trio of Barton, King and Southern Wesleyan who each fired 297 and are in a three-way tie for third.

Tusculum is sixth with its 301, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (302), Rogers State (308), Embry-Riddle (309), Oklahoma Baptist (310), Roberts Wesleyan (312), Fairmont State (330) and Virginia State (362).

Lincoln Memorial's Sam Broadhurst posted a seven-under par round of 65 and has a five-shot lead over second place Eric Shea of Southern Wesleyan who posted a two-under par 70.  Barton's Bryson Boyette is third with 71 (-1), while Engelbert and four other competitors are tied for fourth at even par (72).

Engelbert started his round on the 15th hole as he birdied No. 16 and No. 18 as he was two-under par after four holes.  He dropped a shot on the second hole, but bounced back with birdies on No. 3 and No. 5 to get to three-under par.  Three straight pars followed by got into trouble on the par-5 ninth hole as he scored a double-bogey seven.  He finished with par on four of his last five holes with his only blemish during that span coming on No. 12.

The TU duo of Noah Jones and Liam Sweeney are tied for 26th place after posting rounds of 76.  Jeffrey Perez shot 77 and is tied for 32nd while Matt DiBella is 43rd with his 78.

The final round of the Battle at Hilton Head will be played on Tuesday.
