FLETCHER, N.C. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team finished second in the weather-abbreviated Mars Hill University Invitational. Tuesday's second round was cancelled to inclement weather with Monday's results being final.
Tusculum's Liam Sweeney shot an even par 72 on Monday and shared the first round lead with Austin Fisher of Brevard College. Fisher won medalist honors on a scorecard playoff to break the first place tie.
The Pioneers also finished runner-up as a team as TU's 303 was good enough for second place. Host Mars Hill won the team title as the Lions shot 298 on Monday to win by five strokes. Montreat College was third with 306, followed by Pfeiffer University (307) and Mars Hill B (347).
Tusculum's Jordan Williams shot 76 and tied for 12th place while junior Matt DiBella tied for 15th after firing a 77 on Monday. Freshman Kyle Engelbert tied for 18th after carding a 78, while junior Hunter Chandley placed 24th with his 83.
The Pioneers return to action next week (Oct. 1-2) as they travel to Sunset Beach, North Carolina and the Ocean Ridge Plantation for the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
