Pioneers in second after day one of Dibble Classic

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team shot a first round 297 and are in second place at the 2018 Bob Dibble Classic.   The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the par-71, 6,763-yard Link Hills Country Club.

Tusculum, the reigning three-time defending champions, are two shots behind day one leader Walters State who carded a team score of 295.  Emory & Henry is third with 301, followed by Lincoln Memorial B (308) and Roane State (351).

TU is going for its fourth straight Dibble Classic crown and eighth overall in the 13-year history of the event.

Tusculum junior and Walters State transfer Matt Dibella leads the Pioneers as the Greeneville native posted a one-over par 72 and is in second place, two shots behind leader Wesley Jones of Emory & Henry who was the lone competitor to shoot under par on Monday.

Fort Worth, Texas freshman Kyle Engelbert is tied for fifth place after posting a 74 in his TU and collegiate debut.  Liam Sweeney is 10th after he carded a 75, while Jordan Williams and Hunter Chandley each fired 76 and are tied for 11th place.

Playing as individual competitors, Tusculum's Bennett Noe shot 77 and is in 16th place while former TU baseball player and now golfer John Bennett carded an 80 and is in 18th place.

Tuesday's final round will begin at 9 a.m.
