Tusculum finishes 11th at SAC Golf Championship

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Tusculum men's golf team shot a final round score of 310 to wrap up the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship.  The Pioneers finished the championship with a three-day score of 962 at the par-72, 7,002-yard Cobb's Glen Country Club.

Carson-Newman repeated as SAC Champions and won its fourth overall league title.  The Eagles finished with a team total of 878 including a final round 287.  Newberry finished runner-up with 286, while Wingate claimed third place honors with 891.  Queens University of Charlotte was fourth with 893, followed by Coker (895), host Anderson (902), Lenoir-Rhyne (905), Lincoln Memorial (907), Mars Hill (911), Catawba (925) and Tusculum.

Carson-Newman's Tom Forster claimed medalist honors as he fired a four-under par 68 on Tuesday to shoot 211 (-5) for the tournament to edge Anderson's Jake Miller by a single stroke (212, -4).

Tusculum senior David Whinery shot five-under par for his final seven holes to shoot 71 (-1).  Whinery, who started his round on the 10th hole, was one under par through his first three holes, but went five over for his next seven.  He would record birdies on the third, sixth and seventh holes and tallied an eagle three on the par-5 fourth hole.  He posted pars on his final two holes to shoot 33 (-3) on his final nine. Whinery finishes tied for 45th place with a 54-hole score of 237.

Also tied for 45th place with 237 is Tusculum sophomore Anthony Bolden.  Bolden carded a final round 80 where he shot a seven-over par 43 on his opening nine.  But he bounced back on his final nine holes where he shot a one-over par 37 including birdie on hole No. 8.

Freshman Bennett Noe posted a second straight round of 79 which included a birdie on the seventh hole. His three-day tally of 244 has him in sole possession of 50th place.

Senior Brandon Alexander tied for 51st with 247 including Tuesday's score of 80.  Alexander got off to a sluggish start shooting 43 on his first nine holes. But he responded with a 38 on his final nine which included eighth straight pars before a double bogey on the last hole.

Freshman Matthew Kowalski posted an 81 for his best round of his inaugural SAC Championship.  His tournament total of 255 placed him 55th.
