Pioneers remain 11th after day two of SAC Golf Championship

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Tusculum men's golf team posted a second straight round of 326 and the Pioneers remain 11th following day two play of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship.  The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par-72, 7,002-yard Cobb's Glen Country Club.

Carson-Newman climbed to the 36-hole lead with Monday's 293 to give the Eagles a two-day team score of 591 and have a one stroke lead over second place Newberry. The Wolves posted the round of the championship with Monday's 290 to give Newberry a team total of 592.  Wingate is third with 594, followed by Queens (598), Lincoln Memorial (600), Lenoir-Rhyne (605), Anderson (605), Coker (607), Catawba (608), Mars Hill (613) and Tusculum.

Anderson's Jake Miller continues to lead the chase for medalist honors as he followed up Sunday's 67 with an even par 72 for a two-day score of 139 (-5). He leads by three shots over the duo of Harry Butler (Mars Hill) and Henry Bryden (Queens).  The pair have posted identical scores of 70-72=142 (-2).

Tusculum sophomore Anthony Bolden, followed Sunday's 76 with a second round 81 for a two-day score of 157 which has him tied for 40th place.  Bolden opened with a quadruple bogey eight on the first hole but shot one-under par over the next three holes including birdie on No. 4.  A bogey on No. 5 followed by three straight pars and a double bogey on the ninth hole led him to a 42 on the front nine.  He bogeyed two of his next three holes but answered with pars on five of his last six to finish with a 39 on his inward nine.

Freshman Bennett Noe posted a second round tally of 79 for the best score of the day for Tusculum. Noe shot 40 on the front and followed with a 39 on the back nine including a birdie on the 10th hole.  He has two-day tally of 165 which has him in sole possession of 50th place.

Senior David Whinery is in 51st place with his 36-hole score of 166 including Monday's second round 88.  Senior Brandon Alexander is 52nd with 167 including an 81 in day two action.  Rookie Matthew Kowalski is 55th with his 89-85-174.

The final round will be played on Tuesday with Tusculum teeing off at 8:30 a.m. starting on the 10th hole.
