Pioneers finish fifth at Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum men's golf team posted a two-day score of 605 to finish fifth at the 2018 Richard Rendleman Invitational.  The 36-hole championship was held at the par-71, 6,690-yard Country Club of Salisbury and was hosted by Catawba College.

Pioneers completed the tournament with a team score of 306 during Tuesday's final round which was played in rainy conditions.

Wingate made a furious charge in the final round to post a one-under par total of 283 to shoot 575 and win by nine shots over runner-ups Lenoir-Rhyne (584) and Catawba (584).  Georgia College finished fourth with 589 while Tusculum was fifth with 605.  Queens B carded a 610, followed by Averett (616), Catawba B (626), Pfeiffer (629), Belmont Abbey B (634), Brevard (642), Wingate B (646), Livingstone (648), Chowan (664), Pfeiffer B (668), William Peace (670) and Belmont Abbey C (WD).

Tusculum's Anthony Bolden finished with a two-day tally of 69-77=146 to tie for 11th place.  David Whinery made one of the biggest moves up the leaderboard as he posted the second lowest round of the day with his one-under par 70 to finish in a tie for 15th place at 148.  Brandon Alexander tallied a top-20 finish as he posted 75-76=151 to tie for 18thLiam Sweeney finished tied for 42nd place with 77-83=160, while Bennett Noe wrapped up the Tusculum scoring with his 87-88=175 (T82nd).  Matthew Kowalski finished 75th with 87-84=171, playing as an individual competitor.

Lenoir-Rhyne's Jordan Vogler led wire-to-wire to capture the individual medal with a two-day score of 66-72=138 (-4).  Vogler won by three shots over teammate Brad Robinson (68-73=141) and Wingate's Charles Joubert (70-71=141).  Catawba's Trey Burton finished fourth with 70-72=142, while Georgia College's Justin Connelly (72-71=143) placed fifth to comprise the All-Tournament Team.

The Pioneers travel to Leland, North Carolina this Sunday and Monday for the Cape Fear Intercollegiate.
