CARROLLTON, Ga. --- Tusculum's David Whinery and Bennett Noe each fired one-under 71 to pace the Pioneers to an opening day 296 at the Matt Dyas Invitational Monday at the Oak Mountain Championship Golf Course.               

Tusculum is tied for ninth place in the 15-team field and are 11 strokes behind first round leader Young Harris who shot 285.

Harry Bolton of Newberry posted the best 18-hole score of the day with his four-under par 68 and leads by a shot over Valter Andersson of Young Harris (69).

North Georgia is second in the team competition with 287, while Clayton State is third with 290.  Christian Brothers is fourth with 291, followed by Lee University (292), Newberry (294), King (295), Mississippi College (295), Tusculum (296), North Alabama (296), host West Georgia (301), West Alabama (303), Union University (307), Lewis (311) and Albany State (313).

Whinery and Noe are both tied for seventh place and are just three shots out of the lead.  Anthony Bolden is 46th with his 76, while Brandon Alexander is in 64th place following his opening round 78.  Carter Simon rounds out the scoring with his 85 and is tied for 75th place.

The final round of the weather-abbreviated 36-hole tournament will be held on Tuesday.
