Pioneers finish 12th at Queens Invitational

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. --- The Tusculum men's golf team finished in 12th place with a three-round score of 899 at the Queens Invitational, which was being held at The Club at Irish Creek.                

The Pioneers posted a team score of 300 in Tuesday's final round on the par-71, 7,099-yard layout.

Coker led wire-to-wire as the Cobras posted a 54-hole tally of 852, eight shots in front of runner-up Charleston (860).

Sophomore Anthony Bolden was Tusculum's top finisher as he carded a tournament score of 219 including Tuesday's 75 to finish in a tie for 26th place.

Freshman Liam Sweeney accounted for the lowest round of the day for the Black and Orange as he shot a two-over par 73 and finish with 226 for the tournament, good enough for 52nd place.

Senior Brandon Alexander was 59th with 227, while senior teammate David Whinery tied for 60th place with 229.  Rookie Carter Simon shot 76 on Tuesday for a nine-shot improvement from his second round score.  Simon finished 83rd with a tournament tally of 241.

Mars Hill's Harry Butler won medalist honors with a six-under par total of 207,including a final round 68 (-3) to win by two strokes over runner-up Sam Broadhurst of Lincoln Memorial (209).

In the team competition, Barton finished in third place with 861, while LMU was fourth with 863.  King was fifth with 866, followed by Belmont Abbey (867), Lenoir-Rhyne (872), Mars Hill (874), Queens (880), Spring Hill (883), Catawba (896), Tusculum (899), Queens B (900), Pfeiffer (913), Chowan (939) and Bluefield State (1167).

The Pioneers will be at home next Monday and Tuesday when they host the Bob Dibble Classic at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville.
