KANNAPOLIS, N.C. --- Tusculum sophomore Anthony Bolden posted a 36-hole total of 144 and is tied for 17th place after day one of the Queens Invitational. 

The Pioneers are in 12th place in the 16-team field with a team score of 599.  TC opened with a 298 in Monday's first round and followed with 301 later in the day on the par-71, 7,099-yard layout. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at The Club at Irish Creek and hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.

Pioneer skipper Adam Buie was also making his Tusculum coaching debut on Monday.

Bolden opened with a two-over par 73 to begin his day and followed with an even par 71 in his second round.  He sits at two-over par for the tournament and is seven shots out of the lead five-under par, currently shared by Travis Broome (69-68=137) of Barton and Marc Boucher (70-67=137) of the University of Charlotte, who is playing as an individual competitor.

Coker leads the team competition with 564 (-4), two shots in front of second place Barton (586).  Charleston is third with 572, followed by Lincoln Memorial (573), King (574), Spring Hill (574), Belmont Abbey (578), Queens (581), Lenoir-Rhyne (582) and Mars Hill to comprise the top-10.  Catawba is 11th with 598, followed by Tusculum, Queens B (601), Pfeiffer (606), Chowan (632) and Bluefield State (777).

Senior Brandon Alexander, who was making his Tusculum playing debut, is tied for 48th place with 74-75=149 (+7).  Senior David Whinery carded 73-80=153 and is tied for 65th place with freshman teammate Liam Sweeney who opened his collegiate career with a 78, but shaved three shots off that in the afternoon round with a 75 to be at 153.  Rookie Carter Simon, who was also making his collegiate debut, is tied for 77th place with 80-85=165.

The final round will be played on Tuesday beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
