CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum men's golf team finished with a two-day score of 620 to tie for third place at the 2013 J. Ralph Hargett Memorial, held this week at the par-72, 6,936-yard Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation.
The Pioneers were led by senior Nick York as he shot 76-73=149 for sole possession of fourth place.
Walters State led wire-to-wire to capture the team title as the Senators carded a two-round total of 601, 15 shots ahead of runner-up and tournament host Wingate (616). Tusculum and Pfeiffer tied for third place at 620, while Lenoir-Rhyne finished fifth with 622. Lincoln Memorial and USC Lancaster tied for sixth place with 630, followed by Belmont Abbey B Team (633), UNC Pembroke (635), Queens B Team (635), Belmont Abbey C Team (638), Anderson (654), Bluefield State (656) and Catawba B Team (693).
Wingate's Brian Denton captured medalist honors with his even-par score of 74-70=144.
Tusculum rookie Nick Forsberg tied for 20th place with 74-81=155, while sophomore Leif Ratliff finished in a three-way tie for 36th with 80-80=160. Senior Derek Cantrell carded 81-82=163 to finish 44th, while junior Dakota Norton shaved 15 shots off his Monday round (90) to post a final-round 75 to finish with a two-day score of 165 to finish 52nd.
The Pioneers will now prepare for the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship, which will be held Apr. 14-16 on the River Course of the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
