FUTURE PIONEER FINISHES RUNNER-UP AT WORLD TEEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

David Talley PINEHURST, N.C. --- Tusculum College rising freshman David Talley finished runner-up at the 2009 U.S. Kids World Teen Championships, held at Pinehurst Resort.

Talley, a native of Blountville, Tenn., shot 74-76-70=220, one shot behind tournament medalist Lucas Gabriel Cabarcos of Panama. The 96-player field consisted of individuals representing 34 countries in the 15-18 age group played at the world famous Pinehurst No. 2 course.

By finishing in the top two of his age group, Talley qualified to represent the United States in the World Cup Match Play event, where he served as team captain of the U.S. Team. Talley and teammate Lee McCoy (Palm Harbor, Fla.) defeated the International pairing of Cabarcos and Charles Verschelden (Canada), 4&3. The U.S. won the championship 6½ - 2½ against the International squad.

Talley will be joining the Pioneer program this fall after playing his prep career at Virginia High School in Bristol, Va.

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference, which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
