Justin Irwin named to Tusculum men's basketball staff

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Justin Irwin has been named as a graduate assistant for the Tusculum University men's basketball program announced TU head coach J.T. Burton.

Irwin, a native of Edmond, Oklahoma will serve as the team's Director of Basketball Performance and work in conjunction with the athletic department's strength & conditioning program.

"Justin comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and will bring energy to our team," said Burton. "The way he relates to the players is unparalleled. He has a special way to get players to buy in to what he is teaching. We are very lucky to have such a young and energetic coach like Justin on our staff."

Irwin possesses a wealth of professional experience at both the collegiate level and the private sector.  He previously served on the strength & conditioning staff at the University of Florida where he worked with the Gators' men's and women's basketball programs as well as men's and women's tennis and men's golf teams. He also helped with the strength & conditioning needs at the University of North Texas where he worked with the basketball, football, women's volleyball and women's soccer.

"I'm excited to be at Tusculum and be a part of the Pioneer family. I'm very grateful to Coach Burton and the rest of the staff for allowing me to join the team here at Tusculum," said Irwin. "This opportunity is an absolute blessing and I can't wait to get after it this year."

He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is Red Cross certified in CPR, AED and First Aid.

Irwin graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2020 where he majored in kinesiology exercise science and fitness management. He is working on his master's degree in sports administration at Tusculum.
