Donaldson named AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University guard Donovan Donaldson has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 14 through 20.

Donaldson becomes the first TU men's basketball player to earn SAC Player of the Week honors since All-American Kyle Moore in 2010.

Donaldson averaged 24.5 points and 10 rebounds per game, and shot 52.6 percent from three-point territory (10-of-19) as the Pioneers posted a perfect 2-0 record.  He recorded a career-high 32 points in Tusculum's 80-77 overtime win at Wingate on Saturday.  The Nashville, Tenn. product went 13-of-23 from the field including a career-best six 3-pointers (on 12 attempts).  He scored 24 points after halftime and knocked down the final points of the game as TU won at Wingate for the first time since 2011.

He opened the week with a double-double of 17 points and a career-best 17 rebounds in the Pioneers' 63-49 victory over arch-rival Carson-Newman.  The 17 rebounds are tied for the seventh-most in TU history as he tallied his second double-double of the season.

The Pioneers (9-8, 5-4 SAC) have rattled off a five-game winning streak, its longest string of victories since the 2008-09 campaign.  Tusculum made it five in a row when they overcame a 13-point second half deficit to rally to a 91-81 overtime victory over Newberry on Monday.

TU will play its third game in five days on Wednesday when they travel to Harrogate to take on defending SAC regular season and tournament champion Lincoln Memorial for an 8 p.m. contest at Tex Turner Arena.
