Patterson earns All-SAC honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College guard Kendall Patterson has been named to the 2016-2017 All-South Atlantic Conference men's basketball team where he garnered honorable mention accolades.

Patterson, a 5-10 senior from Burlington, North Carolina, led the Pioneers in scoring and assists as TC finished eighth in the conference standings and advanced to the SAC postseason for a 16th time in the last 18 years.  Patterson averaged 16.2 points per game which is eighth in the league, while his 5.0 assists per game average was tops in the conference.

He scored 20 or more points on eight occasions this year, including his 26-point effort in Wednesday's loss to ninth-ranked Lincoln Memorial University in the SAC Quarterfinal.  

Patterson scored a career-best 31 points in Tusculum's 113-78 home finale victory over Mars Hill.  In that game he shot 11-of-15 from the floor, including 8-of-10 from three-point territory.  The Pioneers connected on its first 10 three-point attempts, including six in a row by Patterson to start the game.  His eight treys are tied for the seventh-most in program history.

He finished his 58-game career at Tusculum with 741 points, 254 assists and 99 steals.  His 58 thefts this year are the seventh-most in program history and the most by a Pioneer during the NCAA Division II era (1998-present).

Including his 57 games while playing at Barton College from 2013-2015, Patterson has totaled 1,093 collegiate points and 374 career assists to this credit.

Patterson was named the SAC Statistical Champion for assists per game, while junior teammate Ronnie Baylark won the league's free throw percentage title as he fired a league-best 85.1 percent from the charity stripe, which is the ninth highest average in school history.

Carson-Newman University's Charles Clark was named the SAC Player of the Year, while Marshall Lange of Newberry College was tabbed the SAC Freshman of the Year.  LMC head coach Josh Schertz was named the SAC Coach of the Year.
