Former Pioneer signs with Edmonton Eskimos

EDMONTON, Alberta --- Former Tusculum University defensive back Bryce Bartlett has recently signed a professional contract to play for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Bartlett, who was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, played the last four seasons with the Pioneers in the TU secondary.  In his 34 career games in Greeneville, he accounted for 68 tackles including six behind the line of scrimmage.  He posted eight passes defended for loss including one interception and forced a fumble.

In his senior season last fall, he played in nine games with 44 tackles, 4.5 for loss and four passes defended.

Bryce is an excellent representative of Tusculum University, both on and off the field," said Tusculum head coach Jerry Odom. He is a person who loves the game and has a high football IQ and we are looking forward to watching his success in the CFL."

Bryce becomes the second Tusculum student-athlete to play in the CFL of late, joining his older brother Brandyn who was a linebacker for the Pioneers from 2014-2016 and is currently playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Edmonton will play its first preseason game this Sunday when they host the BC Lions.

The Pioneers finished the 2018 campaign with a 5-5 overall record including 4-3 in the South Atlantic Conference to finish third in the league standings.  It is TU's third straight season to finish in the top half of the conference and best overall SAC finish since 2014.
