Donnelly, Woodson named to Google Cloud Academic All-District football team

AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum University student-athletes Kelly Donnelly and Devin Woodson have been named to the Google Cloud NCAA Division II Football Academic All-District 2 first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Donnelly was named the first team special teams representative for Super Region 2, while Woodson was one of four defensive lineman recognized.  Both advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with the winners being announced in December. 

The Academic All-District 2 football team is selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Gulf South Conference.

Donnelly, a 6-2, 210-pound graduate student from Pulaski, Tennessee, posted a 3.68 cumulative grade point average as an undergraduate while majoring in environmental science.  He currently has a perfect 4.00 GPA in his graduate studies at TU in talent development.  He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Donnelly was named to the All-SAC first team to become the 10th TU long-snapper to earn All-Conference honors.  Donnelly, who served as a back-up long snapper in his previous three Tusculum season, earned the start this year and became the first Pioneer in six years to earn a spot on the All-SAC first team at the position.  He also posted two tackles on special teams with a fumble recovery.

Woodson, a 6-1, 260-pound junior from Central, South Carolina, has a 3.48 GPA while majoring in exercise science.  He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Woodson played in all 10 games at defensive tackle where he accounted for 28 tackles, including seven for loss (-18 yds) and three sacks (-12 yds).  He posted a season five tackles each against Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate.  He tallied three solo stops including a sack in the Pioneers' 37-10 SAC win over Limestone.  He also had three sacks with a sack in a 41-28 home win over Carson-Newman.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
