ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Jordon Shippy and Joe Defatta have been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week. Shippy was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Defatta garnered Special Teams Player of the Week accolades for a second consecutive week.
Shippy, a junior from Gaffney, South Carolina, established a new Tusculum single-game rushing record with 258 yards on the ground in the Pioneers' 37-10 win over Limestone last Friday night in the SAC opener. He also ran for three touchdowns on 35 carries, including four runs of 20 or more yards. He also finished the game with 279 all-purpose yards which are the fourth-most in Tusculum history. He currently leads the conference averaging 125 rushing yards per game.
Defatta, a senior from Franklin, Tenn., had another outstanding week on special teams. He accounted for 13 of Tusculum's 37 points in the victory over the Saints. He connected on three field goals of 26, 31 and 27 yards and was perfect (4-for-4) on extra points. In his last two games, he has scored 24 points including four field goals and a perfect 12-of-12 on his PAT tries.
The Pioneers (2-1) return to action this Saturday when they host UNC Pembroke (1-1) for a 4 p.m. kickoff at the Niswonger Sports Complex and Pioneer Field.
