Ogle, Brown sweep TSWA Player of the Week honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum's Alex Ogle and L'Keith Brown have been named the College Football Players of the Week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association (TSWA).  Ogle was named the TSWA Offensive Player of the Week while Brown earns TSWA Defensive Player of the Week honors for a second time in his career.

Ogle, a junior quarterback from Hobe Sound, Florida, completed 22-of-38 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns while rushing for another score and throwing a pass for the game-winning two-point conversion in Tusculum's 32-31 double overtime win at Newberry. Ogle tossed a 27-yard TD pass to Evan Altizer early in the fourth quarter to put the Pioneers on top 17-14.  After a Newberry tied the contest with a field goal to send the game into overtime, his nine-yard scoring pass to Gary Breuklander put Tusculum ahead in the first extra period.

In the second OT Ogle rushed two yards for a touchdown on fourth down and then completed the two-point pass to Conner Johnston for the Pioneers' first road win in the series since 2009 against the defending South Atlantic Conference champions. He has completed 57 percent of his throws for 1,537 yards with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions this season through seven games.

Brown posted a season-high 12 tackles with a forced fumble and one interception in the win for the Pioneers as well.

The Athens, Georgia linebacker made five solo stops, including two for loss, and his interception was late in the first half and led to a field goal just before intermission.

Brown became the sixth player in Tusculum history to surpass the 300-tackle plateau in the contest. He leads the Pioneers with 56 tackles, including 6.0 tackles for loss, with two forced fumbles this season.

The Pioneers (4-3, 2-2 SAC) will host Catawba (5-2, 1-2 SAC) for Homecoming this Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from Pioneer Field.
