Ogle, Cantrell named AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum quarterback Alex Ogle and punter Hunter Cantrell have been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week.  Ogle was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Cantrell garnered Special Teams Player of the Week honors.                                  

Ogle, a junior from Hobe Sound, Florida, passed for two touchdowns, rushed for another in overtime and threw a pass for the game-winning two-point conversion in Tusculum's 32-31 double-overtime win over defending SAC Champion Newberry. The Pioneers snap the Wolves' 12-game SAC winning streak while recording their first win at Setzler Field since 2009.

Ogle went 22-of-38 for 224 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. He rallied the Pioneers from a 14-3 deficit in the second half completing TD tosses of 27 yards in the fourth quarter and one for nine yards in the first overtime period.

With Tusculum trailing 31-24 in the second OT and facing fourth down from the two-yard line, Ogle snuck in for the touchdown to pull the Pioneers to within one at 31-30. On the ensuing 2-point conversion, Ogle rolled out to his right and threw across the field to the left corner of the end zone where he found freshman Conner Johnston for the with the game-winning conversion.

On the season, Ogle has passed for 1,573 yards and 10 touchdowns while posting a .571 completion percentage.  He has also rushed for a pair of scores.

Cantrell, a senior from Sparta, Tennessee, averaged 43.1 yards per punt and pinned all eight of his punt attempts inside the 20-yard line in Saturday's double-overtime win.

Cantrell flipped field position several times as six of his eight punt attempts were also pinned inside the 10-yard line as Newberry's average field position started at its own 14-yard line. His eight punts inside the 20 are a new TC single-game record.

Cantrell broke the school record on Saturday with his 224 career punt attempts.  His 8,799 punting yards are second in school history while his 39.28 career average is fourth in TC history.  He leads the SAC this year averaging 41.7 yards per punt, which is 17th in the nation (NCAA Division II).

The Pioneers (4-3, 2-2 SAC) return home this weekend when they host Catawba for homecoming this Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
